So this has kind of been weighing heavily on my mind lately, and I think I just need to vent. My dad was diagnosed with cancer recently, and after weeks of tests, he's finally going to have surgery next week. I'm both relieved that all the waiting will finally be over and we'll know definitively how much chemo he'll need, and also completely furious with the doctors for making us wait this long. If they knew it was cancer, and we knew where it was right away, why did we have to go through a month of tests? They would order him a set of tests, have him come back in a week to discuss those tests, and then order a new round of tests, then have him come back in another week, do it all over again, etc. And yet, they're still telling us that this myriad of tests they've been running for months aren't conclusive, and they won't be able to tell us anything definite on his prognosis until they go in and take the tumor out. So tell me, what was the purpose of all those tests?
As a biology major in college, I'll be the first to admit that I love science, and I do think doctors can work miracles thanks to modern medical science, but it's times like this that I really get what McKay means when he says medicine is like voodoo. Among the many tests they've run have been a vast plethora of blood tests, CEA, CAT scan, and MRI, and yet the only reason we even know he *has* a tumor is because they shoved a camera up his colon and took a picture of it!
Which leaves me wondering why they didn't just go ahead and do the surgery right away. Instead of pussyfooting around for over a month, while my family and I wait on pins and needles to know just how bad it is, this could have been over weeks ago if they'd just gone right ahead and scheduled the surgery as soon as they knew it was cancer. And trust me, sitting around waiting and feeling helpless for this long is making me very anxious for next week.
At least, that's how I feel now. We'll see if I still feel that way after the surgery.
Anyway, the purpose of this post was to tell people why I haven't been writing or vidding much lately, so...yeah, I got a little carried away. Like I said, I think I just needed to vent.

Also: I got the first season DVDs of SGA for my birthday (finally!) and I was reading the back, and I noticed:
~Of the 4 times David Hewlett's name is mentioned on the back, 3 of them are misspelled (Hewitt once, Hewlitt twice) ~Of the 2 times Torri Higginson is mentioned on the back, both of them are misspelled (Tori) ~Joe Flanigan is listed as contributing to the audio commentary of Seige 2, when in fact it was Seige 1.
Here's hoping TPTB actually proofread their DVDs for season 2. (This is me casually offering up my beta services, btw, Martin Gero. *Doe eyes*)

9:45 am - New Vid: A Shipper's Plea
|
Title: A Shipper's Plea Artist: I don't want to give it away, the song's a joke unto itself... Summary: Memo to All Atlantis Personnel: Orgy in the Gateroom in one hour. I'll bring the whipped cream... Pairing/Character: EVERYONE! (Or very nearly...I counted, there were 21 separate ships...) Category: Humor, parody, romance, and the closest thing to Plot, What Plot? you can get with a vid. Format: wmv Editor's notes: I actually heard this song while flipping through radio stations on my way to my grandparents' house, and I immediately knew I wanted to make this vid. Because seriously, there's a bajillion ships in Atlantis fandom, and if all our dreams came true then the Atlantis crew would be doing nothing but snogging all day every day and the Wraith would take over earth, so we shippers deserve to be mocked a little bit. ;) Don't get me wrong, I'm a rabid shipper, so I'm mocking myself here too, probably moreso than anyone else since most of these seem to be my prefered ships. Really, I tried to make this as objective as possible, and include the most popular ships, but there's just too many to choose from. Bonus points if you can figure out the ship(s) I *don't* personally prefer.

To truly understand how pathetic I am, go here and see the full size version of the artwork I made. It's horrible, but I love it because it makes me laugh. And the mini-version above really doesn't do it justice. ;D

12:25 pm - Vid Rec
|
Okay, so I just found out that derry667, who is my vidding hero, posted a rec for my vid Spongebob McShep on reel_sga. Since I deleted the post with the link, I thought I should probably put it back up so derry isn't linking to nothing.
Spongebob McShep (Warning: Small vid has terrible sound quality) (Right click and select "Save Target As") small 4 MB | large 16 MB Summary: Crack!vid, McShep Style Music: F.U.N. Song, Spongebob Squarepants Category: Humor, Parody, McShep Editor's Note: Seriously, this is probably not only my favorite video I've made yet, but also my most popular. This vid was inspired by another Jack/Daniel vid to the same song, made by Nat, which you can find here. Big, huge, stupendous thanks to derry for the rec!!! :D
